Embird Font Engine

Embird Font Engine allows you to use any TrueType or OpenType font to place text in your embroidery files, from either basic Embird or Embird Digitizing Studio. This gives you tremendous versatility. The negative is the small percentage of fonts that were designed poorly, and don't render well via Font Engine. Notes:

  • Font Engine is built into Embird Basic. The letters A, B, C, a, b, c are available for testing. Purchase of the plugin enables full use of all characters, in all TT fonts.
  • Embird Alphabets are pre-digitized embroidery fonts. Both Font Engine and Embird Alphabets are lettering tools, serving similar purposes, but they are separate, independent parts of Embird.
Font Engine allows you to maintain three folders on your computer where fonts are maintained, and automatically includes all the fonts installed into Windows. The "Fonts Folders" screen is available by clicking the Fonts Folder icon near the top right of the Font Engine Window:

Font Folders allows you to enter your Fonts Folders directly, or find them by clicking the folder icon to the right of each of the three Font Folders:

Third-party Font Managers such as The Font Thing are very useful with the Font Engine, allowing you to find, move, and visualize your fonts easily. Font Engine doesn't require the fonts be located in Window's fonts area. Some Windows resources are wasted if you have unnecessary fonts installed into Windows, so it's best to keep only the necessary fonts "installed" in Windows. Font Managers like The Font Thing allow you to uninstall fonts, and/or move them to your own folders.
